BGS signs Wizz Air at Vilnius airport

Baltic Ground Services signed an agreement with Europe’s leading low cost carrier Wizz Air. At Vilnius international airport BGS will provide Wizz Air with integrated aircraft and ground handling services and aircraft refueling services. The first Wizz Air flight from Vilnius is planned for April 16th.

“Wizz Air, a newcomer to Vilnius, will become one of the largest airlines at the airport. Within a month we will service more than 80 flights per month. We are glad that Wizz Air will expand the geography of destinations from Vilnius and hope to contribute to the successful operations of the airline in Lithuanian market“ – said CEO of BGS Saulius Batavicius.

Vilnius became the 13th base of Wizz Air in Europe. From Vilnius the airline will fly to 8 destinations: London (Luton), Doncaster (Sheffield), Cork, Eindhoven, Stockholm (Skavsta), Milan (Bergamo), Rome (Fiumicino) and Barcelona.

15 airlines operate at Vilnius airport, offering flights to 25 destinations during the summer season. In 2010 Vilnius airport services 1,4 million passengers and approx. 26 thousand flights.

At Vilnius airport, BGS has around 40 percent share of ground handling market and 90 percent of refueling market.

Currently Wizz Air operates 12 bases across Europe. The airline flies to over 150 destinations and operates a fleet of 34 Airbus A320 aircraft. In April the airline is also planning to start operations in Serbia.
